Clay Turns Four Months!

Clay turns four months and I have a huge smile on my face!  I LOVED the past month.  And not to say I didn't love the first couple of months... because I did.  The snuggling with a newborn, lots of baby naps, tiny little noises, itty bitty clothes, the wrinkling of the face.  But my heart just melts at the sight of all these smiles I am getting all day long.  And I kind of feel like I am getting the hang of being a mama.  I sure am loving it!

I definitely feel as though glimpses of Clay's personality are starting to come out.  In the past month he went from cooing and ahhhing to shrieking and screaming.  Either that or a sound I can only describe as moaning.  Sounds similar to what you would think a mummy would sound like coming up from a grave.  Mmmmmmm. Mmmmmmmmmmm.  Our neighbors probably think we are awful parents because Clay is having so much fun exercising his newfound voice.  But he does it with a huge grin all the while.

Clay's favorite activity this month was to practice walking!  We hold him up around his sides and he step... step... step.  Corey was walking at nine months and we think Clay will follow in his footsteps... literally!  We hold him up in front of the mirror and as soon as he sees the handsome chap looking back at him, he throws himself a little party.  Dancing, marching, dropping it like it's hot.  It is hysterical.

He is taking a liking to tummy time too.  Finally!  My mom was watching him and she informed me that he was "crawling."  I thought there could be no way.  But to my amazement, he has been crawling here and there... just a little bit.  He doesn't move too far.  Our pediatrician flipped Clay over to his belly today on the table and sure enough, he starts crawling.  She hollered for the nurse because she had never seen a four month old crawling.  We are giggling now but we won't be when he is all over the place!!  She said it was time to start baby-proofing!  Really?

Other things Clay started doing this month... he is grabbing at everything and it goes right in the mouth.  His toys, his fists, my hair.  His toes are next... he is getting closer everyday.  I was convinced he was teething because he would chomp at everything in sight and leave a trail of saliva from here to the parking lot!  But the doctor said not yet.  I am guessing when he does start teething we will need to wring out his clothes when they soak up all the drool in about 5 minutes.  Oh he is a funny little fellow!

Speaking of the doctor's... the nurse today strips Clay down to get an accurate weight.  She puts Clay on the scale and his "winkie" is completely exposed and pointing at her.  I can see her getting ready in case he starts spraying and I reassured her she had nothing to worry about.  I told her Clay has never peed without his diaper on.  We were lucky to avoid all of the mishaps we had been warned about from parents with boys.  And then as soon as I get home, I eat my words.  I change Clay's diaper and woop- a little rainbow stream takes aim at the wipes box.  It was like he heard me and thought, "Well, I can do that."  A little challenge.  And he won.

We get to start rice cereal next week and I am so excited!  We are all hoping that this puts a little meat of his bones.  He is such a skinny little thing, only weighing in at 12 # 4 oz today at the doctor's.  He is just now starting to wear his 3 month clothing although most of the elastic waists aren't tight enough to stay on when picking him up!

Clay is such a happy little boy!  We have had so much fun watching the world through his eyes.  He is changing and learning every second of every day!  Can't wait to see what this month brings!
